Aragon, Valencia, Islas Baleares and Cantabria return health to immigrants (Source: El País)
The change of government in some autonomies after the May elections has led to several thousand people in Spain, have access to free health care again. By Royal Decree 16/2012, the national executive left out of health care system to about 870,000 people, mostly illegal immigrants. Now, Valencia, Baleares, Cantabria and Aragon have amended their legislation to include in their health systems to those that were left out in 2012.
Irregular migrants with three months registered in Cantabria will have entitled to use the regional public health system since Tuesday (August 18th), being published today in the Official Bulletin an order from the Ministry of Health that recovers the universal and free health care in the region.
With this legislation, the Social Protection Programme of Public Health approved by the previous Popular Party government in 2013, which established a term of 183 days of registration and a limit of income equivalent to IPREM (532.51 Euros per month) to have access to free health care, is repealed. Now, those who request an identification card that will give you full access to health care in Cantabria only be extended for two years if they continue in the same situation.
